A model of chronic IgE-mediated food allergy in ovalbumin-sensitized mice BJMBR
Saldanha,J.C.S.; Gargiulo,D.L.; Silva,S.S.; Carmo-Pinto,F.H.; Andrade,M.C.; Alvarez-Leite,J.I.; Teixeira,M.M.; Cara,D.C..
Food allergy is most frequently the result of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions. Here, we describe a chronic model in which some of the intestinal and systemic consequences of continuous egg white solution ingestion by ovalbumin-sensitized eight-week-old BALB/c mice, 6 animals per group, of both sexes, were investigated. There was a 20% loss of body weight that began one week after antigen exposure and persisted throughout the experiment (3 weeks). The sensitization procedure induced the production of anti-ovalbumin IgG1 and IgE, which were enhanced by oral antigen exposure (129% for IgG1 and 164% for IgE, compared to sensitization values). Intestinal changes were determined by jejunum edema at 6 h (45% Evans blue extravasation) and by a significant...

Antibody responses in mice after immunization with inactivated bovine respiratory syncytial virus using different adjuvants Ciência Rural
Spilki,Fernando Rosado; Almeida,Renata Servan de; Arns,Clarice Weis.
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV) causes pneumonia in young cattle. Modified-live-virus (MLV) and inactivated vaccines are currently used for the control of clinical effects of BRSV infections in cattle. On the present research, the stimulation of specific anti-BRSV immunoglobulin isotypes was investigated, through the use of different commercially available adjuvants (Water-in-oil emulsion, Quil A, Aluminum-hydroxide) in inbred mice (Balb/C and C57BL/6). BRSV antibodies were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and the results were compared to the antibody levels induced by immunization of animals using live-BRSV-virus. Water-in-oil emulsion and alum- adjuvant preparations induced higher levels of IgG1 immunoglobulins,...

Herpes simplex virus ophthalmic disease induced using two different methods of mice inoculation BJID
Pereira,Sílvia Regina Ferreira Gonçalves; Guimarães,Maria Angélica A. M.; V. Neto,Leonardo; Segenreich,Daniel; Varella,Rafael Brandão; Chagas,Vera Lucia Antunes; Câmara,Fernando Portela.
Two different procedures for inoculation of HSV on corneas of BALB/c mice were evaluated. The first was by the use of HSV suspensions directly on the corneas and the other was after corneal scarification. Animals by this later method presented greater morbidity and mortality than those of first group, suggesting that inoculation of HSV without scarification of the cornea should be the method of choice for the study of HSV ophthalmic infection. This model showed also be an efficient experimental system to testing antiviral drugs.
